Holiday parties are upon us! As you’re scrambling to find your tackiest sweater or your sparkliest [yes, I know that’s not a word.] dress, take a minute to remember the hosts and/or hostesses of said parties. I believe it’s extremely important to show them that you appreciate the time and effort they put into planning–and for having you in their home. While I’m sure a bottle of wine or liquor is always appreciated, it’s the hostess gifts that require a bit of thought that tend to make the biggest impression. And putting thought into something doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to put in a lot of time or money.
Shameless Plug: Be sure to tune into Good Day Austin on Monday [December 16th], as I’ll be sharing lots of fun ‘DIY Hostess Gift’ ideas!!!
A super easy, yet useful, hostess gift that you can make on your own are painted wooden spoons.
- 2 Wooden spoons (I used a regular and slotted) <–I got mine from Garden Ridge for $2 each!
- Painters’ tape
- Acrylic craft paint
- Mod Podge
- Glitter (optional)
- Ribbon or baker’s twine
First I taped off the ends of each spoon with tape. I painted a couple coats of gold acrylic paint and let them dry.
Once the gold paint was dry, I quickly painted a coat of Mod Podge over the gold and sprinkled gold glitter. After I felt like the glitter had set, I painted another hefty coat of Mod Podge over the glitter to ‘seal’ it. No one wants glitter falling off into their food bowl! Maybe you do…I don’t know…
Once everything had dried, I gave each spoon a ‘tap-tap’ to shake off any excess glitter. I then tied the two spoons together with some festive ribbon–you could also use baker’s twine, jute, etc…–and voila!
I also painted another set of spoons with just red and white stripes (similar process to the painted antlers), sans glitter. The red and white spoons can also be used for Valentine’s Day, Fourth of July, Tuesday….you name it!
Check back Monday for another festive hostess gift idea! Hint: It involves wine. Shocker…
