VOTE FOR SP&C! Martha Lynn Kale’s Denim Challenge

Fellow blogger [and fabulous hair stylist], Martha Lynn Kale has partnered with one of my favorite Austin boutiques, Hem Jeans, for their first ever DENIM CHALLENGE.  Combining two of my all time favorite things–Denim + DIY–I was so excited to participate in this contest!  The challenge was simple, repurpose an old pair of jeans into something not wearable. Read on to learn how I gave this old chair new life and how you can VOTE FOR SP&C!
After much brainstorming, I chose to refinish an old straight-back chair I found at Wimberley Market Days years ago. First I cut off the original rope seat, and gave it a good ‘once over’ with a fine grain piece of sand paper to remove any loose paint.  Using the ever-so-popular Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, I gave the chair a fresh coat of ‘Antique White’.  Chalk paint is the perfect solution for pieces like this, as it doesn’t require much sanding or any priming.  It has great coverage and dries quickly!
I used two pairs of old jeans for this project, cutting the legs off each and then cutting 1.5″ strips of denim.  Instead of doing the standard ‘over-under’ weave, I wanted to give this chair a fun touch of tribal, so I created this pattern–after much trial and error! Once I had my pattern into place, I simply stapled the fabric to the underside of the chair, and voila!

Here’s where I need your help! Head over to MarthaLynnKale.com and vote for SP&C as your favorite Denim DIY! Voting ends April 7th, so you have plenty of time to tell all of your friends and co-workers to vote too (wink, wink).
